How to Reply to Positive Restaurant Reviews

Turn a happy diner into a regular — and use their review to attract new customers.

Positive restaurant reviews are marketing assets that most owners underutilize. Harvard Business School research found that responding to positive reviews increases the likelihood of receiving future reviews by 12%. Each reply is also a chance to mention seasonal menus, upcoming events, or signature dishes to readers who are already interested. The cost of not replying is invisible but real — ignored reviewers stop leaving reviews, and potential diners see a restaurant that only responds when something goes wrong.

1Thank them by referencing specifics

If the reviewer mentioned a specific dish, name it in your reply. "So glad you loved the truffle risotto" is infinitely better than "Thank you for your kind words." If they mentioned a server by name, acknowledge that too — it shows the team that management reads and values the feedback. Specific references also create natural keyword density for your restaurant's specialties in search results.

2Share a behind-the-scenes detail

Positive review replies are your chance to share stories that reinforce quality. If the customer praised the seafood, mention that you source it daily from a local market. If they loved the atmosphere, share that the decor was designed by a local artist. These details give future readers reasons to visit beyond the original review. They also create content that is genuinely interesting rather than formulaic.

3Tease something new to invite a return visit

Mention an upcoming menu change, a seasonal special, or a new dish in development. "Our fall menu launches next month and I think you'll love the pumpkin ravioli" creates anticipation. This turns a one-time diner into someone thinking about when to come back. Avoid being too promotional — one natural mention of something new is enough. The line between helpful and pushy is thin.

4Close with warmth and a personal signature

End with a warm, personal closing. "Hope to see you again soon — Marco, Head Chef" feels genuine. "Thank you for choosing us. — The Management" does not. Restaurants are personal businesses, and your reply should reflect that. If the review mentioned a special occasion (birthday, anniversary), reference it: "Happy belated anniversary — we're honored you celebrated with us." This level of care is visible to every future customer who reads the thread.

Example response

Thank you for the wonderful review! We're thrilled you enjoyed the grilled sea bass — our chef sources it fresh every morning from the local harbor. Next time you visit, ask about our new tasting menu. We hope to welcome you back soon. — Marco, Head Chef
